This is a really good example of “responsive” web design. Turn up the volume, and hear what happens.

Responsive web design is this year’s trend. All it means is that a website resizes automatically to the size of the screen you are viewing it on, in an intelligent way. So, you can view the exact same website (say, http://www.itsmedia.ca) on a laptop, and on in iPhone/Android. The website will recognize that the smart phone has a smaller screen, and ensure the content is presented best for it.

For our website (http://www.itsmedia.ca) we have reformatted the top menu bar, and the number of portfolio items that appear. When the screen gets a little smaller, we turn it into a drop down menu. That makes sense and really simplifies navigation.

We have been working on our own internal process, language, branding, and documentation for a couple of months now, and have wrapped up our identity defining adventure (on this iteration).

We take a long look in the mirror every year and see what we can do to build a better team, and in turn, better products, and further in turn, have happier clients. We do after all, help our clients with their identity, so we like to run through our own process to make sure it is “tight” and the results are as good as we like to provide for our clients.

Here is a brief run down on what we have covered on this yearly introspective gaze.

Defining values to build value

Anyone into the business/entrepreneurship scene will have heard about the importance of defining values. From the Southwest Airlines model to Starbucks. These are the companies that prove “defining values” has a tonne of value. We too have that here, and have been strong proponents of sharing it with our clients. The new thing we did is present it all over our creative space. 

In every interaction we aim to exceed our client’s expectations. We try to provide the best product, at the best possible price, and ensure our clients are happy with it, and make the most of it possible. Eduction + Passion + Perfection = Value.

Show your colors

So, here we are, working away in our downtown Kelowna studio, building: websites, brands, banners, presentations, logos, business and business cards. We wanted our space to reflect the passion we have for our products. We now believe we have one of the funkier studio spaces in town, and get a lot of acclaim on it. There really is no point droning on about the theory here, I think everyone recognizes that if you give people room to grow, they will take the opportunity to do so. We’ve updated our image, our portfolio, our client list, and renewed our determination to working with motivated clients to build websites and brands that help their businesses grow.

Our portfolio now includes most of our latest work. This week are are on track to launch 8 new websites. Today, Monday, we launched Schell Dental Ceramics http://www.schelldental.ca and our updated look. Watch closely as we wrap up the remaining 6 projects. Then, after this we are giving the team a break and letting them restore their creative powers before we start the next year!

We have refocused our attention to not only showcasing our new design, but also showing off some of the marketing work we have done for our clients. We offer many different services, including: website design, branding, identity, search engine optimization (SEO), hosting, mobile development (we are still the most productive iPhone/iPad development studio in the Okanagan), and social media.

We are excited to start off 2013 with a great team, a great client list, and new resolve to make our fourth year our best one yet! We firmly believe we can double our output and size!

Have you ever wanted to move a reader to a specific part of a page in WordPress?

Here are 3 simple steps to guide you through creating anchor tags to be able to link to a specific area on any page. This can be used internally on a page as shown in the example, or can be done to link from page to page. A great example of this would be terms throughout your website linked to aglossary page.

1.  Using the HTML editor in your page, create an <a href=”/YOURURL#idname”> ANCHOR LINK </a> around the word or title you want to like from

2.  create a <div id=”idname”> YOUR LINK TITLE HERE </div> around the word or title you would like to link directly to.

“From the slopes of Big White to the shores of City Park in Kelowna, teams of up to seven people and soloists race others and the stopwatch over six legs that span 95 kilometers. The legs, in order of completion, are: alpine skiing, nordic skiing, mountain biking, road cycling, running, and canoeing/kayaking. Two people are required for the canoeing leg. The race is a relay and all team members are required to help bring the canoe equipment across the finish line.”

QR Codes are a great way to direct people to any link, or give them bits of information. You can easily add these to your website, business card, or even post it to your store window.

Where does this one link you?

QR Code — abbreviated from Quick Response Code — is the trademark for a type of matrix barcode (or two-dimensional code) first designed for the automotive industry. More recently, the system has become popular outside of the industry due to its fast readability and large storage capacity compared to standard UPC barcodes. The code consists of black modules arranged in a square pattern on a white background. The information encoded can be made up of four standardized kinds (“modes”) of data (numeric, alphanumeric, byte/binary, Kanji), or by supported extensions virtually any kind of data.
